Shoulder and rib injury/disfunction will affect upper cervical spinal/neural integrity owing the consequent aberrant mechanics of shared muscles, notably levator scapulae. The function of intervertebral discs is not that of "shock absorber" but rather to facilitate intersegmental vertebral motion that pumps circulation in and around the CNS and associated muscles.
