Really enjoying this – Bookchin clearly had no interest in making friends. He’s out there flame-throwing both Marxists and anarchists.

Finished second essay. An improvement, a substantial argument for systemic ecological change. Bookchin is more balanced and open to the other schools of socialism. However, he still does not explain the distinction between muncipal particpation and participation on other governmental levels, nor explain how running througg public office can bring about the change he feels is necessary.

Finished the first essay, not impressed so far. In his eagerness to break with the past and present Communalism as an independent construct Bookchin's criticisms of the other tendencies are contradictory. And he presents Social ecology/communalism in vague terms "the communalist movement will do this," etc. Apart from a commitment to election participation there's literal substance to communalist strategy.
