Status Updates From Call Off the Dark: A Novel

The tradwife selling point feels hamfisted. At best a woman made a decision to old fashioned homestead with her new husband and hates it. Otherwise we're halfway through and almost none of it is about the "horror" plot. It's just long winding pointless flashbacks to her better life in the city and the mundanities of it.

The flashbacks are sad in context but really drag down the whole spooky mystery vibe when they last the majority of every chapter

At almost a quarter of the way through we've done nothing but go between flashbacks of Hellens rom-comesque life, complete with cheesy twee dialogue, with her late husband and how miserable she is homesteading
