Status Updates From What Monstrous Gods

Okay, I usually love the way Hodge writes romance and I still love Lia as a character, but you cannot convince me Lia and Ruven belong together. All they've done this whole book is argue about who's right about the Gods and try to turn the other to their side. This isn't enemies to lovers, this is just 2 people that straight up hate each other. And Ruven betrays her like every 3 seconds? What is the point, genuinely?

“‘I think they did love us,’ Ruben says finally. ‘Only… not enough.’
And I believe him.
But still I say, a hollow echo of a thousand catechism lessons: ‘It’s right to love the gods more than anyone.’
‘It is,’ he agrees, and my heart thuds with sudden surprise. ‘But even so, it wasn’t right how little those nuns loved you.’ “

My current predictions:

-Ruven is the Queen's brother mentioned earlier and he actually froze her in time to stop his sister's tyranny

-None of this is actually happening, Lia has been bound to the castle like Ruven and all the events starting with her killing Ruven are all happening in her head

I’m kinda confused if there’s going to be romance or not.

I'm reading another stand alone & I'm having the same issue; that I feel like there's not enough plot. I think maybe I'm spoiled by series books 🤔 😕

It was a lot of plot twist and a like the story, à little fucked up but it was a funny lover story. Love at first sight not realizing it, then enmities to lovers with Ruben being that hilarious typ of guy that is always sarcastic and never shuts up. Lia also being extremely human. I loved that. And she messed up and was selfish. Also that the gods were proven to be wrong. That’s amazing, I really like that.

This has been pretty decent but man does the FMC Urk me sometimes
