I keep having to put this down to fan myself. Whew. This is great.

Not that far in but I’m really liking the content, writing and direction of this book!

His love had become her redemption, and when she prayed it was only to him; to the fire that burned between them like sin, to the paradise they found together in each other’s arms. To never ever stop.

He lowered his eyes as though he were ashamed of something, and her hand curled into a fist. She hated this, she’d never been so angry with anyone in her life, but she was angry now with this insane and beautiful and ludicrous man.

I suppose there can be only two outcomes to our friendship; you will save me or I will damn you.

Catalina thought it was an opportune moment to quietly slip away, when she caught sight of a familiar face across the ballroom. She pondered the familiarity of him, and then she realized; it was the priest she met on that terrible night when she’d run away from Guy; the priest who’d tended her wounds and had given her his cloak. That same priest who’d heard her confession.

It was an old travesty, their own fear of damnation that made them vile towards the other more lowly kinds of people who weren't afraid to enjoy their lives. A friend once told her during one of their more philosophical conversations, that hell sounded much less horrific to the sufferer if there were others to share in the torment.

It was a memoir about the priest's life as a libertine, and how he, out of some kind of divine inspiration, decided to find God. Now he was a hopeless reformer, heaping condemnation on others who lived the same depraved, hedonistic lifestyle that he had once headily partook in.

Loving this book already!
