Status Updates From The Grand Ballast

I think I'm going to take a pause on this. It's pretty dark (which I like) but I just finished a long, dark novel and need a little more lightness. Will return to this one.

So this is pretty messed up and so of course I'm loving it.

Another from my long TBR. wow, unexpected so far, intense, captivating and definitely dark. The writing is so beautifully engaging and I have no idea where this is heading.

Arrived at the end. Have to see where I am.

This book is killing me.

The dedication said, "for all the people who make things," and I just rolled my eyes, but I don't think you could fully understand how desperate and hopeful this book is if you've never tried to create things in order to connect with something other than the mundane and unproblematic.If you've never tried to put your soul into creation only to be met with self-doubt,silence or platitudes.

The world trundled on. People who needed adventure found it, and people who cloaked themselves in dullness lived and died without knowing the difference.

I wonder how far in the future this takes place? I know this book is probably at least partially allegorical, but the concept of the whole humanity getting bored with emotions? Hmmmmmmm.. Must be some hardcore orwellian conditioning going on in the backend.
