Sebeos is an eschatological Xian who believes he's living through the last days, not without reason since it is the end of the ancient world, so why is he writing at all? There's not going to be anybody to read it. There's apparently nothing much to go on apart from him. The Persian empire wasn't swept away as immediately as I'd thought. The Romans, having won their empire back from Persia, almost lost the lot.

The translator thinks a word meaning because doesn't make sense but it does: they desisted because they came to their senses. He also seems to have difficulty knowing who's referred to when I don't; and if somebody's called the Red that usually means hair. The senate's advice to Maurice to let the Persians slaughter each other looked good to me
