این کتاب نوشته ای است برای اثبات حدس پوانکاره. هانری پوانکاره اوائل قرن 20 ام میلادی حدس زد هر خمینه سه‌بعدی فشرده، بی‌لبه و همبند ساده با کره سه‌بعدی هومئومورفیک است
این کتاب اثبات این حدس برای بعد اکیدا بالاتر از 4 است
این حدس برای بعد 3 نیز توسط پرلمان ثابت شد که وی از گرفتن مدال فیلدز (معادل نوبل ریاضی) و جایزه یک میلیون دلاری خودداری کرد
