I knew almost nothing about the U.S. war in the Philippines, and now I’m disgusted. We condemned Spain’s colonialism, defeated them, then paid $20 million for the Philippines and became the new colonial power. Filipinos had already fought for independence, but we denied it, called occupation “benevolent assimilation,” and killed tens of thousands. Colonialism with better fucking marketing.
