While I was reading this book, I retell the author's theory about why the millennials started to call their parents by name, and my mom's reactions was:'' hum?mmmm.''

The previous researches on media mostly focus on the content delivered by media, i.e. how different media was used as a political, economic end, but largely ignore the one important possibility about how media changed people's lives -- electronic media created ''new social environments with new patterns of social action, feeling, and belief.''

A must-read for Millennials. It was written just as the generation was beginning (early 80s)

Fascinating to compare his description of TV and the social effects of its mere existence in the '60s with Internet and how it differs as a medium from television. The author also uses the word "ironically" far too much.
