So, The Thing but from the monster’s perspective. Brilliant.

"A Word for Heathens"
4/5 stars. Unsettling in a good way. Reminded me of "Hell Followed With Us." I feel like this story would be good book club fodder.

"The Second Coming of Jasmine Fitzgerald"
3.5/5 stars. Really interesting idea! I'd definitely read a longer work with this premise, though I wish there was more payoff in this version. The autopsy reveal was really cool.

"The Island"
DNF'ed this short story about 20 pages in. I genuinely had no clue what was going on for a single moment of it. Moving on!

"The Things" by Peter Watts - 4/5 stars
Very interesting and thought-provoking retelling of Johns Carpenter's "The Thing" (which is itself an adaptation of John W. Campbell Jr.'s "Who Goes There?"). This short story loses a star because it depends a lot on the source material. People who haven't seen the film might be confused while reading this (it's excellent fanfiction, but it's still fanfiction).
