Wow...I can't seem to get away from straight out prejudice even in books at the moment.

It says something about this author when this book was published in 2005 and has a diverse character who also happen to be a LGBT character at the same time. I'm very impressed. This is also new adult before new adult was even a thing.

Gaia Moore was born without fear, which she has always resented. In a rooftop stunt however, she is recruited into the FBI, and is finally grateful for the mutation. She is doing well, and has just begun the practical applications training course, designed to be exactly like a real serial killer hunt.
