Herbert West - Reanimator, was a significant step up from the narrative-less world building of The Nameless City. It follows archetypical scientist Herbert West through the eyes of his unnamed protagonist scientific companion. The biggest drawback in this story is that, since its chapters were published across issues of pulp fiction, he has to reintroduce every character and premise at the very start of the chapter.

Decided to go back to this, in the dark with just a small light to guide my way. Very immersive, the story about the house was especially good. Really brings out the existential fear of the unknown.

The Nameless City was okay, I wish the story actually went somewhere. Didn’t feel like there was much at stake even in the face of eldritch evil
