Status Updates From Lollipop (Candy Man, #3)

Every time guy is called "kid" or "boy" is really getting kinda annoying and gross. By "kid" I picture a seven year old. And "boy" I associate with a teenager. But 20-something guys constantly being called boys and kids by their peers? Really? Who calls their friend boy? Or kid? Unless they are way older. But peers? Really? What happened to "guy", "man" or even "dude"?! Ughhhhh

I realized that I needed to read the previous installment in this series to connect with it more. (At least, I'm hoping that cures the confusion/apathy/irritation.)

This conversation about race seems awkwardly plunked in here to make a point. It's a little ridiculous, but not... like... harmful and offensive (to me, anyway).

Sleepy time confessions are adorable.

Sometimes this book reminds me of those WB shows from when I was a teenager (e.g. Dawson's Creek), where a pack of adults in a writer's room sit around a table & decide what a bunch of teenagers would think or feel in a certain situation. As a viewer, I enjoyed the show, but could rarely relate. Lane is trying so hard for a casual, "realistic" vibe to the characters' thoughts & words, but it's missing the mark.
