Roberge talks about workshopping 1st person narrative; one must refer to "the narrator" and not to what "you" did. I think that need to separate is what made him use 2nd person. I get it, but I don't like it. Other than that, this is fire. Raw, raucous. and real. I think Roberge wants me to feel what it's like to be in his rapid-cycling bipolar, often psychotic brain. Not sure, but I think he accomplished that.

This is guttingly honest for a book called Liar, and that is, in part, about the lies he tells and that we tell. I love the non-linearity, the way it lets us see what is going to happen and then to see him before those things happen. Super effective. What I think I like less is that this is told in 2nd person. He uses it well, but it bugs me like a canker sore.
