I found essays vi ("The hour of parleying is dangerous") and ix ("On liars") to be particularly interesting. In them, Montaigne explores the ethics of lying and its connection to memory.

Perhaps this is Nolan's Odyssey talking, but I wonder whether he thought of Troy as he was writing these chapters, and whether he, in turn, inspired Hume and Reid a century later in their debate on the nature of truth.
