Nestled together, they talked about their future, about the children they prayed God would give them and about their life together, joined by love and surrounded by the beauty of God's bounty. Freemont, Georgia, and this Amish community would be their home, where they would raise their family and, with God's blessing, live happily every after.

"God knew what He was doing when He brought us together," she reasoned.
"That's why He's God," Zach said, before he kissed her again.

Ella appreciated the boy's compliment and the artful way his mother had used affirmation to build up her son before she corrected him.
Glancing at Zach, Ella thought of the many times he had affirmed her, which was so opposite from Quin.

"And you're always quick with praise." She smiled. "Which is so... well, affirming. I'm thanking God that both of us survived."

A cry welled up within her, a plea so forceful it was as if her entire being was focused on three words that circled through her mind, words from scripture she remembered from her youth.
Save me, Lord.

Thinking of her Amish neighbors and their trust in the Lord, Ella clasped her hands and bowed her head. "Lord, direct my steps. This terrible turn of events needs to stop before someone else is hurt." She looked at Zach, with his flushed face. "Keep Zach in Your care."

Zach glanced at Ella before he bowed his head. She seemed lost in prayer, and Zach wondered if he was wrong for not turning to the Lord.
God, I'm sorry. Forgive me for not making time for You in my life. Help me tonight to keep Ella safe.

Keep the girls safe.
The words flashed through Ella's mind. A thought? Or a prayer? If it was a prayer, would the Lord listen? And if He heard her, would He also respond?

"Why didn't you call Levi?"
Tears welled in her eyes. "Oh, Zach, I did, but he was already in the house."
"You think Levi was the assailant?"
"I don't know, but why didn't he answer the phone?"
OK, that's a HUGE LEAP. Can we just... stop going around accusing innocent people of murder for NO REASON? Hmmmmmm? Can we do that?

"The Amish are rubbing off on me. I'm not religious, and I haven't had much to do with God for years, but their trust in the Lord and the comments they mention about doing His will have made me think about the importance of faith. For your information, research has proved that people of faith have a better chance of surviving a significant illness, such as cancer, than unbelievers."

I hate in romance novels when the heroes accuse the heroines of murder. It's impossible for me to believe someone is in love with someone else but still believes them capable of murder, especially since the heroine is ALWAYS innocent. It's just very stupid and ruins the romance for me.
Not like there was that much romance in here.

"I'm not used to getting compliments from beautiful women."
Her smile faded and a look of confusion washed over her face.
He glanced at her. "You're not blushing because you don't believe what I just said."
"No one has ever called me beautiful." Her voice was low.
"Shame on everyone else then."
"You're not only affirming," she said, "but also prone of offering compliments. That's a winning combination."

Ella had retrieved her medical bag from the car and tried to take the old man's pulse and blood pressure, but he refused to cooperate. Instead he stared at Zach and made a growling noise like an angry dog.
Oh, great.
