I really only have motivation to read this when I’m not actively teaching because otherwise it’s like brain overload. Reading it now it’s partially inspiring but also I can’t help but feel like a lot of this is geared toward middle/high school teachers. In elementary there’s not a lot of room for a cosmopolitan style. I’d like to see more focus on building relationships w neoindigenous elementary kids

I started reading this before my first year teaching and am just now picking up again at the penultimate month of my first year. The perspective shift is crazy. Before I was trying to soak in everything, taking note of everything I wanted to implement. Now I’m a bit more jaded. It’s hard to imagine the students I teach coteaching the lesson, but then again maybe that’s my bias that will be undone as I read 🤔

“Once educators recognize that they are biased against forms of brilliance other than their own, they can finally begin to truly teach.” (Pg 42)
