What this really means is that people are, to a large extent, in charge of

In this chapter I have spelled out the beliefs that can make smart people
dumb: the belief that intellectual ability is fixed; the idea that current performance measures long-term potential; and the belief that people who are truly gifted don’t need effort for their achievements. I have shown how these beliefs can stunt intellectual growth.
