In the middle of life it happens that death comes
to take man’s measurements. The visit
is forgotten and life goes on. But the suit
is sewn on the quiet.

So much we have to trust, simply to live through our daily day without
sinking through the earth!
Trust the piled snow clinging to the mountain slope above the village.
Trust the promises of silence and the smile of understanding, trust that the
accident telegram isn’t for us and that the sudden axe-blow from
within won’t come.

The music says freedom exists...

Sometimes my life opened its eyes in the dark.
A feeling as if crowds drew through the streets
in blindness and anxiety on the way toward a miracle,
while I invisibly remain standing.

As the child falls asleep in terror
listening to the heart’s heavy tread.
Slowly, slowly until morning puts its rays in the locks
and the doors of darkness open.
