Status Updates From Berserk, tome 17

I love this story so much! I cannot wait to continue reading!

Farnese is literally insane! She was enjoying the torture of those poor men a bit too much. It’s a bit creepy but so interesting to see where it goes. I wonder if she’ll ever confronts herself and her faith (or lack thereof) or if she’ll continue on getting drunk on power and lose herself completely to it. I think there’s some good in her but I fear that does have qualities that attracts the Behelits.

Inquisitor Mozgus and his torturers seem to be very sick men. I’m so scared of what he’ll do to Casca. I think enough has happened to her…I just need Guts to come and bring her back home. I do not who Luca is but I’m so glad that she’s looking out for her! And she’s right! The fact that they think their actions are justified and that they’re righteous makes me sick.

Kushan invaded Midland, there is famine and the plague run rampant and now everyone is fleeing to the Holy Ground that is St. Albion monastery. And it seems like destiny is carrying Casca and Guts along with the other. I did not expect seeing Casca again (and with a longer hair!) would hit me this much but it did! I felt so sick. Poor thing. The Holy Iron Chain Knights are there too and the Inquisitor along with them

"Cracks in the Blade" was so beautiful! It was sweet to meet Rickert and Erica again! And seeing how they grew a bit in those two years. And it was so sad to see that Godo is now lying on his death bed. The final part of this chapter with him advising Guts to let it all go was so powerful! I love Berserk so much! What a story! I’m so scared to find out where Casca is and what happened to her.

Can we talk about the fact that Casca’s demon infant can talk now? Or maybe Griffith is speaking through it to manipulate Guts. I’m scared! I’m so scared.

I wonder who that army was with the elephant that was coming to invade Midland/Windham? Chudder? I don’t think it was them. I have so many questions.

I love how “Revelations 1-3” were told through different POVs: first from Sir Laban’s point of view (who I like very much, he seems like an honorable man) from outside of Windham, then from Sir Owen’s (who I like too) from inside the castle, where we find out that the king is dying, and finally from Nosferatu Zodd’s who’s at some battlefield wishing for a worthy opponent. It is all converging.

I did not expect the story to develop this much! I thought Guts would go around killing Apostles and getting stronger. But this? I’m so interested. Midland (and the kingdoms outside) are suffering from plagues, earthquakes, and floods. It all seems connected. Can Griffith do this? To come back as their savior and be revered forever more? What is going on? I’m shaking with excitement! This is good!

I’m loving this! Will Griffith return? What’s with that dream? The symbol of their religion is a white hawk? That could mean a lot. “When the sky falls, at the holy ground, blind sheep gathers and erect a pillar of fire” Guts’s dream horrified me. They will indeed gather and the pillar of fire is probably the stake at which they intend to burn Casca at. I am scared. What does any of this mean?

That scene with the horse…OH HELL NAH!

Serpico seems like a worthy opponent! Both him and Azan are to be fair. I’m interested to see more of them.

I don’t think what happened with Farnese was totally due to the possession of that evil spirit. Surely she wouldn’t act on it (or that’s what I’d like to believe anyway) but it seems like she truly feels that way. Her relationship to religion is going to be a very fascinating thing to explore. And I’m mad that we haven’t figured out why they’ve been following Guts and what do they want with him.

It is so interesting that Farnese couldn’t see Puck! I wonder if it is a matter of faith. But maybe that is not the whole story. Puck said that the old fortune teller lady from the entertainment troupe said that those who cling to the rigid world don’t perceive elves. So that might be the essence of it! Fascinating! Serpico was able to see Puck! Which is quite interesting too.
