Okay, liked Chapter 4. Consistency. Be mindful of who the people are who influence your kids. Point out the people who might not be so great, and find coping mechanisms (burned-out teachers, dreamkillers-loved this term, bad friends, etc.). Positive reinforcement helps give kids (and people) a sense that they can achieve something with enough hard work and dedication.

Mixed feeling on this one so far, some of it seems borderline abusive. I also haven't really heard any specific parenting "methods" or processes, but I do think this has been a good reflective book on deconstructing what you took away from your own parents, how you've parented so far, how you want to parent moving forward. I think on a fundamental basis, I agree with his "why," but don't quite align with his methods.

This guy is probably an asshole, but I do enjoy the dramatic retelling of SEAL training and comparison to parenting. Very fascinating and kind of a funny side-by-side!

Okay, I know it’s written to fathers, and the “macho” narrator makes me chuckle-cringe a little, but honestly sort of impressed with the intro. I don’t mind me a “get your shit together” kind of grab sometimes!
