"A Melancholy Apparition" is light and thoroughly enjoyable. This one manages to use religious belief very well, in a way I rarely see - as a reflection of moral judgement, rather than dictating morals arbitrarily. That makes it work in way that doesn't demand or expect belief from the reader; it just makes sense as the characters' worldview.

"The Voice in the Cornfield, the Word Made Flesh" is... rural cosmic horror, I think? It snaps into place very, very suddenly. More than once. It's not a *nice* place; oh no.

Very wrenching. I'm not sure it's anything *but* wrenching. Good, be brace yourself.

"The Green-Eyed Boy" is Peter Beagle's prequel story describing Schmendrick's apprenticeship to Nikos the wizard.

Not monumental like "Last Unicorn" or "Two Hearts," but still strong, and very heartfelt, in the best of ways.

Pinsker's "Talking to Dead People" is brief and powerful. Two women go into business constructing tiny models of murder scenes.

Reminds me SO MUCH of Karen Joy Fowler - her general style, and the murder-dollhouses of "Wit's End" - but much more direct.
