Quotes :
“There was a tank of goldfish in the window, in which one of the clients relieved himself, no doubt to the despair of the occupants.”
“ Downstairs in the kitchen, still with their coke-fired ovens, were two mouldy jars of piccalilli, faithful unto death like the sentinel at Pompeii”
“ London is not all gold: there are those thoroughfares that are stale, flat, and unprofitable.”

Lots of lovely quotes but I do agree with TyLean’s review.
So far, my thoughts: This was written for the audience of 1960s so the new edition by The History Press could have provided footnote annotations explaining the assumed references. For example, what does the author mean by “Sickertian London” on page 19?
