holy God, oh my God

“our people are starved for love, not bombings.”

I have a Palestinian friend
who drinks coffee with me once in a while
and tells me stories of the Intifada.
“Who can erase those days from the memory of time?
The land will never forget our footsteps
pounding against bullets and tear gas.
My skin remembers it.”

“We are driving and I
am not safe
driving away from
myself and everything I know
into the great miracle of
a country so large
wars are kept thousands of miles at bay.”
