Amazed I'm still going with this. It is not getting better as I read. Quite the opposite

There are moments of clarity and good ideas. There are a few cute character moments... But there are also looong sections where the editor clearly just gave up on getting the author to write coherently.

Low expectations are keeping me going in this for now but it's s still on thin ice

Picked this up because it was immediately available from the library when I wanted to listen to something and was between Audible credits.

I do not have high hopes so far. Author has clearly read enough hard sci-fi to know that a ship would need to flip-and-burn to decelerate... But doesn't seem to understand that this process would involve a few minutes of zero gravity and definitely be detected by the crew.

The more interesting this book gets, the more of a slog it feels to continue reading. Hard to keep focused reading for long stretches even with knowing there's a little over a hundred pages left. Teeters on brink of dnf.
