"That's a lot of questions. Forgive me, milord, but I seem to have misplaced my court manners. F*ck off." She spins & takes off into the park, spine stiff.
"Jett!" I don't shout her name. I roar it.
She stops like she's hit a brick wall[...]. Several morning joggers[...]collide. Hanging flower pots[...]shake back & forth[...]. A bicyclist slams on his brakes[...].
I get loud when I'm pissed.
It's a bear thing.

"I told you, I'm not really a roses and silk sheets kine of woman."
"Yes, you are," I say, groaning at the feel of silky bare skin beneath my fingertips, the tiniest sliver of damp lace all that bars her from me. "And one day I'll prove it to you. But for now, what the lady wants, she gets."

"I'm beginning to think your honorable reputation is total flimflam. Impure thoughts concerning beds and chains. Tricking a defenseless woman into a date." I tick them off one by one and wag a finger under his nose.
He grabs it. "Defenseless? Really, Jett?" He brings my finger to his lips and nips the pad lightly. "Now who's the liar?"

He lifts a shoulder, grin still firmly in place. "I can work with that. Especially the chains part."
"You're not at all as uptight as people think, are you?"
He winks as we head outside. "Anytime you want to find out-"
"In your dreams, furface."
"Every night, witch."

Good folks of any stripe don't want racial annihilation, right?
Problem is some of them do. You never know what's lurking in someone's soul, be it a satyr with a big mouth, or the cookie-baking grandma next door.
I'm not going to let them forget [him] and what he almost got away with. If they hate me for it, so be it. It's not like I'm running for Miss Congeniality here.

My irritation builds along w/ the need to shift. Gods, less than a minute & this woman's already making me crazy.

"Well, I could tell you..." He takes a drag and lets it out. "But then I'd have to kill you."
I laugh. "You've tried, remember?"
His lips tighten and for the first time he looks pissed.
I could always get under his skin, even when no one else could.

Wrapping one arm around her middle, I stand up, swinging her off her feet and back to the bed. She's a powerful woman, my witch - physically, mentally and magically - but she's also tiny. I know she's not used to anyone manhandling her the way I do, but I also know she loves it. She wouldn't be able to stomach a partner who is intimidated by her.
Respect, yes. Kid gloves, f*ck no.

The door shuts with a soft snick and he's gone. I collapse into the seat he just vacated, unable to resist curling into the warmth left by his body. I even press my face into the leather to inhale his scent.
F*cking bruin bastard.

Poor Jett... *sigh*

"I'm not interested in college girls."
"You prefer women who can kick your ass?" I [raise] my eyebrows. "I get it, bruin, but I'm not into the whole dominatrix thing."
He smiles, a slow, deadly smile that has my hormones tripping over themselves. "Thanks for the visual. But when we get there - and we will get there - we'll see who's begging who."
"Is it difficult rolling out of bed every day with that monstrous ego?"

Part of being good with a sword is knowing & accepting your weaknesses. Only then can you learn to compensate for them. Stephen has been my biggest weakness for months now. I'm still working on the compensating part.
He stands there [...], looking bigger than I remember. He also looks tired, pissed & impatient, three things that don't come naturally to this bruin. It's probably all my fault.
Everything is these days.
