Status Updates From Embrace the Night (The Hero...

I decided this would be a fast read so I can finish off my 2021 challenge. So far, I'm right. It's a little strange, though.

Another thing I'm liking about Simon is the extent to which he treasures literacy after having fought so hard to learn to read late in life. A little detail like that really gives his character some depth.

And yes, I remember the whole Falling Creek repopulation cult thing too now.

Annnnndd... the whole 'growing up in Falls Creek' and 'Cor-whore' slur is pinging some memories. Possibly I have indeed read it. But again: zero memory of anything right now.

OK, for all the angsting, I like the fact that Simon lets Sage make the decision about what to do with her attacker. And that he redirects Theo to actually ask HER about what happened. And Theo, mate? You're really not endearing yourself to the reader here...

I see our hero is a son of Clan Angsty McAngstface whose warcry is "O woez, I am so bad and unredeemable!" I'm now curious as to whether we're actually going see evidence of this badness and unredeemability, or whether there's just going to be a lot of internal angsting about it. I shall stay tuned and observe. (Also, this instalment is not making Theo out to be a likeable human - not even a little bit)

Apparently, I read Book 2 of this series back in 2018 as well. As with Book 1, I remember almost NOTHING about it, but there are a couple of instalments later in the series that I'm curious about, so I'm rereading to get up to speed (if Book 1 is anything to go by, they're super quick reads - and hopefully, this one won't have the issues that the previous one did)

I am listening to the audio book. This is a struggle. Heroine is TSTL, and hero isn't doing it for me. I really like the post-apocalyptic world, though, and will probably listen to the next book in the series.
