I regret to say this could have benefited from stringent pruning. Sometimes an author's greatest strength has potential to be their greatness weakness. JTH excels at creating a lush atmosphere & revealing the intricacies of her characters' thoughts & feelings. But if overindulged, the style results in a dense, impenetrable thicket of words. Action scenes slow to a crawl. And the reader risks getting... bored.
