Too choppy & too much content all at once.

Eloise is annoying and overbearing. And I don’t mean any of that in a good way.
I usually like matriarchs in romance novels but here she’s suppose to be the best mom ever but really isn’t. Not in the first book of the series either.

Maybe the author shouldn’t write mystery/suspense.

The3 carat diamond ring was probably the most expensive thing on the ranch and small enough to steal quickly and easily. Of course it would make the most sense to take it to sell for money and not something else big and bulky like a horse from the ranch. What an idiot.

It doesn’t seem like Waylon and Alli were married more than a couple of years, why was he paying alimony for the last three years???

Something (like the author’s research) doesn’t add up.

There is still something about the writing that just doesn't connect with me which it too bad since the story ideas are great.
But so much is not even realistic. You can't just be a random person and investigate a murder or drag the suspect's sibling along to "help out". Same issue in the last book.

I’m hoping this one is better than the first. But there is something about the writing style or cadence that I just can’t seem to connect to.

I’m really starting to fall in love with this series!

there's something special about the sweet relationship between a man and his little daughter...even when he doesn't know it's his sweet little daughter, maybe even more so when he doesn't know and it's still sweet...meanwhile, I can't believe his family hasn't said anything - boo on them
