Status Updates From Braving the Wilderness

This is my 3rd read of this book and it hits just as hard as it did the first time.

When Brené Brown writes about holding hands with strangers, she isn't talking about forced intimacy. She is describing those spontaneous, transcendent moments where the artificial boundaries between us collapse and we feel our shared humanity. We all have to find our own way deep into the wild.

Belonging vs. Fitting In: Brown establishes that fitting in is assessing a group and changing who you are to be accepted. True belonging does not require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are. This definition sets up the thesis: true belonging is an internal state rooted in self-acceptance, you can only belong to something greater than yourself when you first belong fully to yourself.
