Yeah, that last chapter on gypsy stereotypes and persecution was totally superfluous for me.

The chapter by the publisher was kind of stupid.

The book is quite episodic and really reads mostly like a manuscript. In fact at first I did not even realize this had a publisher.

That dream with Mother Mary, the thrown down electric fence and the giant Apples was a nice scene. Would my art skills be better I would paint it.

Something tells me that the author is idealizing her childhood heavily. This often sounds way too idyllic to be true.
In addition, she sometimes speaks quite generally about "gypsies" and reinforces some romantic gypsy stereotypes, while at the same time descrediting some negative ones, albeit not the one of them being completely opposite to the mainstream.

She seems to be trapped between idealized memories and the harsh realities of the time while talking about the May processions and church.
