This was 5 stars up until about page 100 when these very poor people suddenly paid a fortune for a wedding! I was appalled and disgusted by this strange behavior. Thuhang was 10 but weighed what a toddler would way due to lack of food to eat. Does this make sense? The family finally made it to San Antonio, TX to discover that they had major troubles with English. I appear to be near the end of the book!?

I cried as her story is too sad as she got polio. Her name means full moon which is so beautiful.
"I am the youngest in my family. My name is Thu Hang, which means "full moon". My parents chose my name hoping my life would be full and bright like the moon at Tet Trung Thu, the midautumn moon festival."

Tomorrow is the 44th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. In an instant, hundreds of thousands of lives were altered.
I am so humbled that Thuhang Tran and her father, Chinh Tran, invited me into their lives to the world could learn about their incredible odyssey.
Stories are emotions in motion. Thuhang's journey demonstrates grit against incredible odds.

Today begins the Lunar New Year; referred to as Tet in Vietnam. Tet is a time for celebrating with family, friends and loved ones.
Typically Tet is a joyous occasion, but during the Vietnam War in 1968, the North Vietnam troops launched massive attacks on major cities in South Vietnam.
Thuhang Tran chronicles her personal journey in Standing Up After Saigon.
