Reading this through NetGalley so I can only assume that the minor grammar errors are caught and fixed in the final edit and publishing phase.
The first couple of pages weren't necessarily promising, but as the story progressed, the writing and world-setting improved. Chapter 1 is paced well, introducing some (all?) of the main characters and their unique personalities, and giving a hint of the premise of the story.
