Why am I enjoying the novellas more than the actual books?

Why did this scene make me CRY ☹️

The Satum looked away. “It is not armies and laws and entire races who change us, Tatum Olandon. In my experience, change always stems from a single person. Your mother inspired fear, your sister inspired revolution, you inspire justice and security, and Greta,” the Satum glanced past him, “Greta inspires hope. You have picked well, Tatum.”

“A prank,” the prince repeated in a dull voice. He shook himself. “A prank! That’s not a damn prank. That’s just burning my shit.”
“I can see why you play these small tricks on people, Ash,” Olandon said. “And I’m glad you started this thing between us.” He took a happy breath, glancing around the ring. “I’ll need to get a move on to catch up with you”

They both turned to find Ashawn jogging toward them.
“Ash, you seem out of sorts.”
“I bloody well am! I was just informed you sent all of my belongings to be chucked into the Fourth fires.”

Olandon pulled her in again, burying his face in her hair, aware of the watching crowd, but, for once, uncaring. “Greta, I love you. Please never scare me like that again.”
She tensed in his arms, and burst into fresh tears.

She backed away as Olandon neared with the dagger, but he merely took her hand and shoved the hilt of the dagger flat on her palm, stepping back and gesturing for Rian to do the same.
“Lick the blade, or use it,” Olandon ordered, standing before her. Either way she would die.

Yo this scene gave me shivers

“I am ending this, once and for all,” Olandon said. “Sin, cut them off on the Oscala side. Ashawn, the palace side. I’ll cut them off from the village. Watch yourself as you descend.”
“On it,” Sin called, altering his course and dropping fast.
“Oh good, a fight to the death is exactly how I like to start my day,” Ashawn said, though his eyes lit up as he peeled off to the left.

Olandon didn’t like watching his sister cry any more than Jovan did, though some of that had needed to be said. “I plan to apologize to her.”
King Jovan stopped his fist an inch from Olandon’s face. He dropped his arm. “You stole my next line.”
Olandon snapped a fist out, grinning when it connected with the king’s face.

The king of Glacium thought for a moment, nodded, and then without warning, punched Olandon in the face. “Want to spar?”
“You’re supposed to ask before you start punching.” He rubbed his jaw.
“That was for making my queen cry real tears. There have been a lot of other tears, but you hurt her feelings.”

He shrugged. “If you want, Olina and I can rule your world, too.”
“Over my dead body.” Olandon realized a second later he’d played right into the king’s hands.
Jovan grinned. “Mighty possessive of the job you don’t want.”
Did the brute know the effect he’d just had? Olandon blinked as a wave of understanding broke over his shoulders

I gave my impatience free reign because I trusted you, and still do, to be the greatest leader Osolis has ever had. But I apologize because my impatience to bring Olina to Glacium has indirectly led you to feel inadequate to the task. If it makes you feel any better, I felt like a fake king for at least a year, but if you fake something enough, you’ll begin to believe it in time.”

“Her pride for the person you are now is unmatched,” Jovan continued. “There is no one she talks of more. Not Aquin, not your younger brothers, nor any of her friends. You are the other half of her, and she the other half of you.”
Burning began behind his eyes again. He did not want to do this again. Crying, in front of Jovan.

Olandon met her gaze through the chaos, and an age went by in the blink of an eye as his brown eyes blazed into hers.
And Greta knew she’d been wrong.
Olandon did love her. He loved his world, and he loved his duty, but he loved her too.

A woman strode in, a tiny woman with blazing blue eyes. She didn’t seem to have a care in the world as she strode to the leader and began speaking to him.

But when Frost attacked the solati man, Greta could hardly track the blur of her movements. The evil man hit the ground with a heavy thud, his head facing backward, his neck forced to an unnatural angle to achieve it. Dead.

I need more Olina content 😭

“You left me, Olina,” Olandon said, turning away. “I never left you, but you left me.”

This LINE hurt my HEART
