Ok, so something has possessed the usurper, it's known that it leaps between bodies and makes people act weird, the true Tarkin kills the usurper and then screams and faints, the Seer saw both the true Tarkin and usurper overlapped in a vision, and it occurs to none of these highly trained tacticians that the true Tarkin has been possessed? *exasperation*

(Spoiler) This was a book where I expected named minor character deaths, especially after one Mercenary who was killed securing an escape already, but I still feel an especial disappointment that one of the Partnership of two women was killed (even if it wasn't explicitly a f/f relationship) :/

I am still enjoying this one, but the pace feels like it drags at times- not because stuff isn't happening, but because sometimes the next steps are so predictable I wish we could skim over them if that makes sense. I didn't realize this was nearly 500 pages long in paperback when I picked it up, but it does rather feel like it!

‪It's nice to read about characters in their 30s or so in a settled relationship (the exact nature of which is still a little unclear to me, but it's mentioned they've slept together and it's also explicitly not a marriage, but it clearly is a lifetime commitment with emotional dimensions other than professional- it feels like a queerplatonic relationship, maybe?)‬

‪Another book that's been very long on my shelf, I'm enjoying it so far despite some formatting issues and the writing style which hops between the heads of the two main characters in a way that sometimes makes me need to reread a paragraph or two to be sure what's happening
