Status Updates From Anachronism

Well, this has a surprising ending but one that I rather liked. It's original and brave and occasionally a little ragged at the edges but its energy makes up for that.

This is a dizzying ride that manages to navigate on the edge of being too chaotic. It's the kind of story that works if you imagine a time traveller meeting up with an eighteen-year-old who has all the usual Science Fiction tropes at her disposal. The language is fun, as the guy from the future speaks English in a way that suggests he was raised by stern grammarians with a predilection for polysyllabic verbosity.

This is unusual. The writing style reminds me of the quote about Gladstone. 'Inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity'. Yet it works, the way that spinning a plate on a stick works - energy stops it falling but you're always waiting for it to crash.

This is a very fun, fast read, in which Rossman pulls out all the stops. She out Pratchetts Terry and out Adams Douglas. This is some grade-a O. Henry or Mark Twain stuff here.

I would suggest, that unlike me, other readers find a quiet place and lock the door. A rubber room will do. Elsewise folks will most certainly think you've gone off. Way, way, off.

I rate this a solid four-million out of ten.
