Pakistan was a result of Hindu communalism.
Why wasnt the concept of Pakistan so popular among the Muslims? Becuase Jinnah faced two very powerful enemies in the British Establishment and a Hindu backed media which made it very difficult for the message of Pakistan to be propogated.

They were outraged. Maulana Muhammad Ali expressed his disillusionment with Gandhi. The Khilafat movement caused a flutter of excitement in the community but also much hardship and in the end led nowhere.

On one occasion in Bombay, when Jinnah was arguing a case in court, the British presiding judge interrupted him several times, exclaiming, ‘Rubbish.’ Jinnah responded: ‘Your honour, nothing but rubbish has passed your mouth all morning.’
