Gets very involved with the archeological details. What was found where type of details.
That being said:
1) Mortars were fired at 45 degrees, range depended on load. Howizters could be angled to change range.
2) After San Jacinto a major storm hit---bogged down Mexicans.

Filisola - Mexican general who advocated retreat after San Jacinto. Saw that the best of the army had been defeated and had the sick/wounded/camp followers to protect.
Urrea - Mexican general who wanted to advance on Houston to exact revenge for the defeat of Santa Anna.
