It got better but once again did not need several pages about Eckermann towards the end of the Intro. However, I do understand the point being made here and why there are so many examples of Eckermann's writing. Though I don't think it was necessary for so many. At the end of it, it shows how translations and updated editions lose the meaning of the original writing or author identity entirely.

Thankful that I only have to read the intro and chapter 1. Too much rambling on about Goethe's view on world literature for the point of – read with an open mind and find the beauty of other cultures. Yes, I am aware that I should do that; that's the point of expanding into reading outside of my own country/culture. I don't think I need 16 pages on that. I hope the remaining pages for the intro moves to another point
