This book is proving hard for my level but that’s how one learns, by sucking at first. Latest learning is the categorization of fixed assets, that cash (not profits) is what runs business, and that salaries reduce cash assets and earnings liabilities.

Damn I'm still missing a lot of stuff, but the book just taught me that depreciation is a non-cash expense that only affects book value. I still need to fill out an income statement to finish this chapter, but hey... progress is progress, right?

Avancé solo tres páginas en como una hora de lectura porque tuve que volver a ver qué pasaba en páginas anteriores para llenar bien los statements, y de nuevo respondí mal (en el cash statement) porque me pelé cuáles transacciones pagué a crédito y cuáles pagué de contado.

Pero bueno, that's part of learning right? being wrong and all that.

Cap 7 introduce el cash statement, que es para registrar transacciones de cash, e introduce el concepto de capitalizar o gastar un activo. Para tomar esta decisión hay que considerar cuánto cuesta y cuánto dura un activo. Me faltan 10 págs or so, así que voy a dejarlo hasta aquí por hoy y continuarlo más adelante.

Ah, week four es el primer ejemplo de semana que comienza en números rojos. Bear that in mind.

Acabo de terminar el capítulo 6 sobre FIFO y LIFO y te pone a practicar el llenar balance sheets e income statements en los diferentes métodos y explica para qué se usa cada cosa (son métodos de valuar inventario, no de usar el mismo).

Un error que cometí esta sesión fue que llenando el LIFO BS, se me olvidó restar el COGS a las ventas y por eso no hubo balance, pero al ver el answer key entendí el porqué.

Week 3 has begun, y hay que hacer balances iniciales. Pappy, el del super, me da $20 dólares de inventario a crédito, etc, etc. No spoilers here; read the book and do the exercises. Al terminar este warmup hice un income statement con los ingresos y gastos reales de hoy, so creo que puedo dejar el capítulo 6 a medias por hoy. Qué tripeo esto.

El cap 5 es sobre cómo se lleva un income statement en service-related businesses. I got the answers wrong again, porque no supe cómo diferenciar un costo de servicio de un gasto. Pero hey, didn't I blunder mate a lot when I was 250 in chess.com? Now I'm over 500 because I studied and reviewed, so let's keep at it.

I got a few answers wrong on this chapter porque olvidé algunas transacciones en el accrual method (llámese una venta del inventario, interés y seguro), pero el punto de este capítulo es aprender la diferencia entre el cash method y el accrual method. yikes. it’s a lot to take in on a first read.

Chapter 4 seems to be all about the accrual method, which records transactions that don't necessarily end in the receiving of cash, for example selling for credit (which can become bad debt) or repaying interest on loans. I thought i would finish this chapter today but i need to get on with my music tasks, so let's get on with those.

Okay so leí un capítulo completo por primera vez y wow i mean el storytelling práctico lo pone a uno a pensar. Este capítulo fue un repaso de cómo se llena el balance sheet teniendo en cuenta que se piden préstamos tanto a bancos como a personas físicas, y como estos préstamos van separados en diferentes categorías y se pagan en diferentes plazos. Marico, siento que releeré este libro varias veces.

Wow. Este es un libro que te ELI5 conceptos básicos de la contaduría. I'm just starting and i want to read more of it. I'll prolly be able to sell my music business to investors. Hasta ahora ha explicado el concepto de balance sheet y la fórmula para calcular assets.

I dunno what to expect of this book. I sure hope it helps me understand my cashflow and that of my indie label better. It seems fun from the get go and not very long. I'll give it a shot.
