it took nearly 7 hours of the audiobook to grab me but i think it finally has... so yay? I wish certain reveals were more staggered.

Like... it would have been cool if they had revealed that tori and luis had found the atargatis's ship engine on the sonar earlier in the book. I would have had something more tangible and current to propel me forward.

There's already so much drama between the scientists lol. But they really went all out... oceanographers, animal behaviorists, sign language experts, organic chemists, the ship technology. It all doesn't matter if the mermaids get them though 😬
The alternating perspectives are so cool, we get to see all these different characters and relationships

So Imagine studios is putting a front of wanting to give closure to families, and help researchers. In reality, they want to capitalize and prob monopolize the discovery of mermaids before anyone else does, but someone will eventually.

Tory and Luis find sonar readings of deep creatures recreating noises. We learn about Tory’s studies and real studies, about Luis and his money, and more background character development. Lastly, I learned that the Imagine entertainment have seen the sonar readings too, and want story on their next expedition.

I can't believe they're sending another ship out to the Mariana Trench 😬 It's called The Melusine... and they got both Tory and Dr. Toth on board
Is this going to be a disaster? Probably. Bc I don't think they are really prepared for what's out there. But it will be interesting to see this research I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️
