SO YEAH. THIS SCENE STILL MAKES ME CRY

'Dad puts his arm around his daughter and watches the fire
with her. As always, he’s searching for something - anything -
to say or do to make his daughter happier.
And just as he’s about to say something, just as he’s about to make another admirable and kind and probably slightly off-
the-mark attempt at helping the little girl that he loves so
very very much, more than anything, she speaks:'

'Dad hugs her. She does not hug him back. She has her knees up
to her chest, her arms wrapped around her knees, her eyes
shut tight, trying to collapse herself to a single point.'

'When Gabe types, Kayla can see via a message in the chatbox saying, “GABE IS TYPING...” He types. Stops. Types again.
Stops. His next thought is going through a few drafts.'

okay so this script finally made me bothered enough to look up what a mcmansion WAS bc ive seen this term like everywhere and just assumed it was like an actual mansion but for some reason was built by mcdonalds

They drive away. Kayla stands in place, staring straight
ahead, perfectly still.
Then, suddenly, she RUNS. We follow her, close, as she sprints across the parking lot, away from the school.

They are quiet from two totally different places -- self-consciousness and unconsciousness.
They sit in silence for a FULL MINUTE. Sixty excruciating seconds. No one enters.
