i still have some questions which i should probably read the second book. but even if the ending was rushed to segue the sequel, i still felt it was rushed. the plot twist just wasn’t my favorite, and i felt like the build up was dismal. i also wish we got more flashback scenes of bri growing up, i don’t know if that would ruin the narrative but that’s what i wanted. it was a fun book, maybe we’ll resume.

i liked the familial dynamic between mom mo and brisei, i like the rep! #lgbtq+litduringpridemonth 😝 however i didn’t like the relationship between marie and briseis mainly because she’s 300 years old. that just felt odd. and i kept getting pissed off at all the unanswered questions bri had, like bro just tell her.

i feel like the media i am most consumed in has trivial characters that are impossible to like so i enjoyed this novel. the relationship that she has between the plants was unique and i liked how she let go of her previous grudges when she moved to rhinebeck. and all the apothecary scenes and garden scenes were fun, but definitely not the star of the novel. i think the relationships in briseis life are the heart.

as a YA it was unique and different to what i typically read: it was teenage existential with a fantasy twist. it was fun but towards the end i started to get upset because i was like “there’s only 3 chapters left! this is so rushed” but i found out there’s a sequel so yay! maybe i’ll read it later on. but briseis was such a cute and fun character, she wasn’t problematic and extremely likable.

so i finished! i would give it a 3.75 and would definitely recommend it people. i finished it in under a week and i enjoyed it. “it was a fun little book” and easy to read. i like all the greek mythology stuff i thought that was really interesting on the authors part. i am so sad that karter was a coward, that made me sick.
