I can’t remember what Delamare wants with Lyra but blaming a child for his scheming adult sisters disappearance is deranged.

Malcolm correctly stating his attraction to Lyra is morally wrong and other characters disagreeing to push him towards her is INFURIATING! It is wrong and gross and creepy and all these adults involved are just as wrong and creepy.

Feels like going from “Lyra’s missing” to “Pan must have run off and she’s gone to find him” is jumping to conclusions a bit from Asta’s pov. There is literally nothing to make them think that other than the author knows that’s what happened.

I think it’s quite telling that Pullman says Malcolm’s been in love with Lyra for 4 years. That would make her 16, very conveniently the moment she became legal this 27 year old man decided he loved her. A man who knew her when she was a BABY.

Malcolm’s crush gets more gross upon rereading because it’s so clear he really creeped Lyra out. She’s spent like 50 pages going out of her way to avoid talking to him even though he has the info she needs.
