i feel awkward about cyberfeminism because unless it's combined well with disability justice it can end up being like bioessentiallst thinking that we have to change the individual bodies as opposed to the social relationships. for example focusing more on controlling menstruation than breaking the boys' club, because this book has helped show that the heterosexist categories are not legal positivist.

while that bell hooks essay from "ain't i a woman" makes me feel awkward about using apatheid instead of separatism, 2 things need to be said: she's referencing one of the works that influenced her, and she's making a lot of good points about how a lot of weakness attributed to female/girl babies is due to how society treats them as more fragile.

chapter 7 is pretty awesome as a lot of these have come to be like 20 years later. however, this also explains what the hell i was facing back in 200X. my preschool was a lot more omnigender, sigh, that was beautiful.

in the 2001 edition i'm reading, the shamanism & native american sections are actually the most fruitful. there are various predictions that didn't come to be in the other sections, but these 2 sections signal boosted how indigenous societies emphasize that terms like heterosexual, homosexual, gay, queer, trans, etc, are all with the western colonization schema, that those terms aren't generalizable.

so a lot of the vocabulary problems are due to the era, such as not only why we developed the gender unicorn circa 2015, but also heterosexism with bioessentialism focused on genitalia, is in fact a CSA propagandizing schema, which this book in seeking to debunk heterosexism inhereted in its terms. She in fact acknowledges this by saying something like we wouldn't necessarily approve but heteronormativity is manmade

i didn't even use the framework of crossing over back then to describe my gender situation, i described myself as a mix girl because stereotypes vs body parts & the other girls as match girls. this lead to awkward applications for the gender non conforming, but the point being is that, this was the sort of framework i had as a kid. girlhood based on body parts & girlhood based on homemaking were 2 stereotypes.

while i can forgive these mixing up of terms due to the early era this was written in regarding queerness, and this book's points were clearly influential based on what i hear all the time, it's like going to be interesting to find out later how these conversations bore out. but seriously she's a nonbinary lesbian & i was a trans girl & heteropatriarchal people expected us to be immaculately without baggage to unpack
