Status Updates From The Odyssey

I blame this book (and Netflix) for my reading slump. I felt the full 10 years of passage while listening to the Odyssey

I wanted to read the classics, I said. And so I am, but at what cost? Perhaps it was better in the original Ancient Greek?

The gang is doin a lil island hopping. They almost get eaten by a giantess (I think?). Then they barge in on a woman living alone in the woods, who turns them into pigs. Ody manages to get a secret potion that makes him impervious to her charms and pig-binding spell. She lets them go, but first makes them go to the land of the dead.

At least he has a horse now

Book 9: after leaving Troy, Ody & co. go to the island of the lotus eaters, where half of his men get high and join a cult? Meanwhile, Ody & co. check out the cave of the Cyclops, where they just help themselves to all his fancy goat cheeses. But Cyclops finds them and eats them for snacks. Ody gets Cy drunk and blinds him and then they escape via goats. Cy asks Poseidon to punish Ody, and Poseidon’s like BET.

Book 8: Odysseus eats dinner at the local King’s house, where the entertainer be strumming his pain with his fingers, singing his life with his words. So the King is like, uh, why you crying friend? And Oddy is like, sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a boatload of entitled men.
