Wait I think this might be making me a better person

I picked this book up again just to remember why I put it down. If the author thinks it’s “not wrong or bad” to dehumanize a person to the extent you don’t acknowledge their existence (while they are in the same room) then in don’t care what else you have to say.

She is giving explanations on different worldviews in chapter four which is all well and good but when she gets to the topic of an ethnocentric worldview she describes a Christian pastor who is the president for an interfaith group. The pastor was so ethnocentric he refused to acknowledge the existence of the Buddhist in the room. The author then said that wasn’t wrong or bad. I find that stunning.

“Spiritual awakening is the deep discovery that we are not fundamentally separate from others, nor are we essentially different from them.”
