Lauren stood paralyzed by the perfection of the raw male virility of Gabe in a tuxedo. The air caught in her lungs. He was gorgeous, sexy, and all hers. Her heart raced and heat spread through her with his slow perusal. He hadn’t seen her in the maid of honor gown. He had left her room before she was dressed.

“What is happening to my sexy macho-man identity? My sister isn’t the least intimidated by me and the woman I’m making all my sleek moves on would rather have a girl’s pajama party.” And the fact that he was smiling through his grumbling made Lauren start to hope that she might be able to trust him.

“You don’t have to do anything right now.” He pulled her into his arms. “Just give us a chance. A chance to get to know each other. That’s all I’m asking. I’m between deployments and would like to spend the time with you.” He lifted her chin with the tip of his finger. “Can you do that?” She nodded.

Gabe smiled back and primitive need sparked between them, making her want to do crazy take-off-her clothes kinds of things. No question there was chemistry between them. More than she’d felt with any other man. Why couldn’t she let herself go and just enjoy the moment?

His nonchalant suggestion was more of a blow than she could have anticipated. He obviously didn’t feel the attraction or the intense awareness between them. She had imagined every terrible scenario with this wedding, but she hadn’t anticipated becoming a pawn in Gabe’s master plan.

Caught off guard, unprepared to come face-to-face with Gabe at her gate and with no time to compose herself, she was thrown back in time.
