First thing on hearing about this book was to look for was whether William Jennings Bryan was prominent in this history. H.L. Mencken treats Bryan as a fool, drawing from Bryan’s anti-evolution part in the Scopes Trial, but sifting in some reference to his Cross of Gold speech & stance. Bryan is, rightly. Also, Marriner Eccles, the great force for banking reform in the New Deal.

DNF, the book was a challenge to get through. It read more like a book outlining banking laws than a story. Maybe some day I’ll go back to it. For today there are so many other books to read.

Heavy book to read. There is too much detail about amendments and the struggle to get each issue past. Im also taking notes as these are issues i might want to refer back to. This is one of those books that makes you realize “the more you know, the more you know you don't know.”
